Leftover 2018 models in double cab with standard bed are pretty much non-existent. Everything is a crew cab with a short bed.
So, we started looking at 2019 models. We found a 2019 SR5 with the new SX package and a bed liner, plus all weather floor mats - $41500 or so. We talked them down to $36700 which seems to be a great deal on a 2019, but we wanted down to $ 36000. They won’t budge, we won’t budge, so no Tundra for us - yet. I’ll stay on the lookout. I do want the SX package, pretty much a must. I love that grill and headlights and bumper and wheels
Once you start taking numbers, there are plenty of deals. $8000 discount on a Silverado extended cab, $10-12000 on a crew cab. I found a 2018 Silverado 1500 custom with 5.3 V8 and extended cab for $34500. I found a Ford F-150 XLT with extended cab and standard bed , 5.0 V8 for $33600. All of those have really shitty financing options - $6-7% interest if you want all the discount offers. They only offered 0% if you opt out the $4500 or so discount offers. So, great buys if you’re paying cash, but some $7000 in interest on a $35000 truck over 6 years.
I’m still waiting on Nissan people - I was told interest will be bad, but they might go really, really low on the price so we’ll see about that.
So, I’m still looking, but probably waiting for better deals, hopefully around Christmas.
Thanks for all of your opinions.

Crazy how places discount trucks....

I just need to find a time when they have good deals and good financing. I haven’t paid attention to how the pricing works on cars around black friday. We’re in no hurry, so I’ll just keep looking.

I’ve seen $17000 discounts on loaded models before. I wish they just priced the trucks fairly to begin, instead of having these crazy inflated prices in the first place.

Read the fine print on the different offers -
You usually
don’t have to keep the financing that goes with the extra rebates.
Just take whatever obnoxious rate it is that they’re offering, then head down to your local credit union and refinance it on the first payment.

that white Tundra is a n ice looking truck...

Go to a bank or credit union and get your own financing.

Yup, that’s the best option. Honestly, we could finance it and just pay it off, but I like the idea of zero interest over 6 years.
AutoNation offered the best deal - keep a $2000 discount instead of $3000, and retain the 72 months at 0% on a 2018. But, we decided that SR with 8’ box is just not right, and there are no 2018 double cabs remaining in Denver.

I love it, and I finally convinced my dad as well. Not it’s just a “find the deal and wait” game.

Good chance we’ll do that.

It can pay to shop around outside your local area. Rebates and incentives vary by region, and sometimes substantially. Last year I bought a new F-150 in the Dallas area that had 3k more in rebates on it than the same truck would’ve had in the El Paso area at that time . I did the deal over email, which is a vastly superior way to negotiate buying car, flew out to Dallas and drove it home to El Paso.

That would be nice if they didn’t have such huge artificial mark-ups. Then you wouldn't have dumb people like this that walk away from good deals.

Still plenty of 2018 double cabs out there but wow I can’t believe people walk from such good deals just to save a buck. You had a good deal on a truck that shouldn’t even be discounted. You had a desperate salesman that was looking to make a deal. Geez, I hope you aren’t dumb enough to get a Nissan.

There is literally nothing wrong with my 2008 Tundra with 100k miles on it. If I ever need another truck a mere $700 could not push me to another brand.

Duh the good deals are on the 2018 models to help clear inventory . Lol why don’t you wait 11 months for the 2020 models to come out.

It allows them to sell Raptors and Limiteds for $60k sticker prices. Nobody would pay that if the next lowest trim level cost $25k less, which is the real transaction price difference.

It *looks* nice. It’s just outdated by at least a decade. Fuel economy that 3/4-ton gas trucks are close to matching, a frame that’s famous for its flimsy weak nature and class-action lawsuit level rust rot problems, a 6-speed auto in a world where the competitors are offering 7/8/10 speed automatics, a nd an interior that takes you back to 2008. Paying a tiny bit more for a *modern* half-ton is worth it.

The last car we bought from a dealer was negotiated the same way. We got to withinp $500 of the price we wanted but the dealer wouldn’t budge any further.
While “thinking it over” I looked up a GM accessories catalog and found ~$450 worth of accessories I wanted. Then I told the dealer I’d accept their price if they throw in those accessories. (I said just the parts, I would install them) and t hey did!!
So while i paid more than planned, I still felt like it was a fair deal.

And don’t forget to take the outside approval back to the dealer - they may well have a response.

FWIW I’m seeing very few CUs offering anything less than 5% now. Days of cheap financing are over.

That looks like Stevinson East. I picked up my Taco from there.

More and more of my friends are moving into Tundras..
Can’t really blame them;
When we bought last year we sat in them but it was still a little too battleship for us.. We stayed
with the Tacoma this time
round..
![]() 10/23/2018 at 20:07 |

Nice Tacoma costs almost as much as a Tundra after discounts are accounted for. And that V8 vs 3.5L V6...hard to beat.

It is! I bought my 2000 Tundra there 18 years ago, and they are closest Toyota to my house. They just don’t have the selection of some other dealerships .
![]() 10/23/2018 at 20:10 |

Chevy, GMC, Nissan, Ford - they all have great discounts but shitty financing. They all want me to buy from them, get the discounts, and then refinance, but there is no way I could beat 0% or 1.9% that Toyota currently offers.

Brilliant deduction!
![]() 10/23/2018 at 20:11 |

I don’t think it will, Tundra will probably be it. I just have plenty of time to look for better deals.

Dude, are you just a car salesperson that somehow stumbled to Oppo?
![]() 10/23/2018 at 20:17 |

I have considered it - I found a few models I liked in Montana, but not enough of a price difference to make it worth traveling.
I did buy my Abarth in SLC and flew there, picked it up and drove home. It’s just hard to find dealers willing to provide all info over email and not face to face.

Unless you are paying for the gas.. Our third Gen easily gets 12L/100km or right around 20mpg c ompared to the 12-15mpg from the Tundra..
T he other thing is the double cab Taco has more room in the back seats than the double cab Tundra does , it would be a Crewmax for us.
![]() 10/23/2018 at 20:34 |
|
True, but we drive less than 1000 miles per month, and back seat is empty 99% of the time. I guess it all depends on your use case scenario.

I love my used 2007 Tundra I bought 4 months ago but I need a 4×4 to pull my boat out of the water so if you have 1 to sell when you find another 1 please let me know I'm in Louisiana thanks
